The Correlation among the Atomic Structure, Electronic Valence Band and Properties of Zr-Cu-Al-Ag Bulk Metallic Glasses

Investigating the relationship between glass-forming ability (GFA), mechanical properties, and structure of metallic glasses is crucial to understanding nature glass state. In this study, correlation among atomic structure, electronic valence band, properties have been studied using Zr50Cu44.5−xAl5.5Agx (x = 0, 1.5, 3 at.%) bulk (BMGs). The results reveal that through micro-addition Ag, GFA Zr50Cu44.5Al5.5 BMG can be enhanced; meanwhile, critical diameter rods increases from approximately 2.5 mm 5.0 with addition 3% Ag. Through thermal stability improved, proportion icosahedral-like clusters increases. plasticity BMGs decreased 4.6% 0.8% band spectrum indicates p-d hybridization near Fermi level enhanced, binding energy will move a lower value.
